Germantown Alumni Chapter 2012-2013 Committees

 

The Bylaws Committee-Taurus M. Hines, (Past Polemarch), Chairman

Purpose:The purpose of the Bylaws Committee is to review and initiate bylaw amendments, changes to policies and procedures, and provides recommendations for these to the general body of Germantown Alumni Chapter.

 

Goals:
1. Responsible for reviewing, revising and/or updating the Bylaws of Germantown Alumni Chapter.
2. This committee will do an in-depth study of the Constitution and Statutes of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and Roberts Rules of Order and will use these documents in the revision of the Chapter Bylaws.

 

 

The Achievement Committee-Sylvester Sparks, Chairman

Purpose: The Achievement Committee shall submit to the membership, the names of financial members who will be awarded the title of "Chapter Achievement and Service Award," "Chapter Officer Award," and "Chapter Neophyte Award." 


Goals:

1. To ensure each month we select a Brother of the Month Award.
2. To ensure we prepare for the Chapter Achievement and Service Award, Chapter Officer Award, and Chapter Neophyte Award.

 

The Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee –Derrick Wilbert, Chairman

Purpose: The Scholarship Committee provides assistance to undergraduate students with their education through scholarship provided by Germantown Alumni. The Chairperson for the scholarship committee is responsible for the overall coordination and direction of the scholarship program.    


Goals:

1. To ensure we raise enough funds to begin administering a scholarship to qualifying and deserving college bound students (two maximum).

2. To ensure we establish fair guidelines for the selection of qualifying and deserving students.

3. To ensure we partner with GTAC Guide Right (Kappa League) to support.

 

Pan-Hellenic Council Committee-Chairman, Marlon Joseph Williams

Purpose: The purpose of The Pan-Hellenic Association shall be to govern the recognized National Pan-Hellenic Conference (NPC) fraternities and, to develop and maintain fraternity life and inter-fraternity relations at the highest possible level of accomplishment.


Goals:

1. To ensure the brothers are up to date on all Pan-Hellenic events taking place and provide recommendations to the board and the body.
2. To serve as designated brothers to attend Pan-Hellenic events/meetings on behalf of GTAC.

 

Membership Committee- Chairman, Willie Merritt

Purpose: To provide a positive and wholesome experience to Members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. so they continually rededicate themselves to the commitment of membership in Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Inc.

Goals: To become a body that always encourages all members of Kappa Alpha Psi, with its resources and services to the Germantown Alumni Chapter.


Membership Intake-Dr. Cederick Ellis

Purpose: Responsible for inspiring men to become members of Germantown Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., to conduct the Membership Intake Program according to the Constitution and Statues of Kappa Alpha Psi.


Goal: To screen, select and recommend to the body, quality men of high character and moral fiber for possible membership into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. 

 

Benevolence Committee-Justin Batts, Chairman

Purpose: To work with the Benevolence Committee in assessing the needs brought to the attention of the church and to take action to meet those needs.


Goals:
1. To inform the body of our brothers and Silhouettes who have been hospitalized due to illness, surgery or other ailments. Also, inform the body of death of a brother or Silhouette.


 

Social & Entertainment Committee-Willie Martin, (Past Polemarch), Chairman

Purpose: The purpose of the Social Committee, as a standing committee of the GTAC, shall be responsible for the planning and coordinating social activities such as social events with Germantown Alumni Chapter creating a community spirit among the Chapter.     


Goals:
1. To implement and plan all aspects of events for brothers and Silhouettes while providing enjoyment and fellowship. In addition to producing revenue to the chapter, when applicable.


 

Political Action-Jeremy Jordan, Chairman

Purpose: To strive to empower our members and community through political awareness and voter education. To inspire service in the public interest.
Goals:


1. To ensure the brothers are up to date on all political action taking place on the local, state, and national level.
2. To serve as designated brothers to attend political events on behalf of GTAC.

 

 

Budget and Finance Committee, Rodney O. Brooks, Chairman

Purpose: The purpose of the Budget and Finance Committee is to maintain the

1. Responsible for recommending to the chapter, an annual budget based on the cost of operating the chapter and shall recommend the ways and means of financing the budget.
2. Conduct an internal audit of the financial records each year beginning in June and present the findings.

 

Fundraising Committee, Detric Stigall, Chairman

Purpose: The committee working with the board and other committees shall develop long range plans for financing the programs of the chapter. Plans approved by members may be implemented with the assistance of other committees of the chapter.

Social Committee, Stanley Nicholson, Chairman

Purpose: To develop and, with the approval of the members, implement social, educational, and vocational programs, and work with other organizations in programs that will involve members in rendering service to the community.

 

 Goals:
1. To develop partnerships with other local NHPC fraternities and sororities, and other community organizations within Shelby County to establish social, educational, and vocational programs.
2. To work with TDOT to establish GTAC as a fraternity who would like to Adopt a Highway.
3. To develop a partnership with Junior Achievement of Memphis to partner on some events.
4. To develop a partnership with Brother Spencer's Charter School to partner on some social events.
5. To partner with local sororities and/or fraternities to throw social events which will create revenue for each organization and donate proceeds to a good cause.

 

 

Chapter Nomination Committee, Gregory Lawrence (Past Polemarch), Chairman

Purpose: The Board of Directors has established a Nominating Committee whose purpose is to seek and nominate qualified candidates for election or appointment to the Executive offices of Germantown Alumni Chapter.


Goals:

1. To identify and recommend a slate of individuals to serve in leadership positions on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors
2. Foster transparency and engagement of the Chapter throughout the process and at the same time assure confidentiality and respectful communication in the Election process.


 

Publicity and Publication Committee, Isaac McBride, Chairman

Purpose: The main purpose of Publicity Committee is to with all committees to see that the activities of the Chapter are duly noted and maintained. They shall act as a liaison for the chapter with all media outlets.


Goals:
1. To encourage interest in the Chapter’s activities. It is axiomatic that parties are responsible for GTAC’s Public Relations.
2. Responsible for preparing proper communications to be sent to Provincial and National
headquarters.
